Baltimore Orioles executive vice president of baseball operations Dan Duquette will be the keynote speaker at the first event of the Sarasota Area Sports Alliance (SASA) 2014 spotlight series. The spotlight speaker luncheon will be held at Ed Smith Stadium (2700 12th Street) on Monday, February 24, 2014. Networking begins at 11:30 a.m., with the lunch and program beginning at noon.
Duquette will talk about the upcoming 2014 season and team. "The Orioles organization, players and fans want a winning season and a series title. We have a great nucleus of players already, but we know we still have world to do," said Duquette. "Our true success to building a winning team and season is to continue to focus on our core players while bringing up the best players through our farm system."
In 2013, the Orioles posted their second straight winning record, going 85-77 and remaining in playoff contention until the season’s final week. The year included Duquette’s 1,000 career victory as head of baseball operations department with a major league team. In his time with the Orioles, Duquette has also overseen improvements in the club’s player development operations and directed additional resources into analytics and video assets in an effort to maintain a consistently competitive team at the major league level.

IMG Academy officials, Chris Ciaccio, VP of Marketing & Sales and Loren Seagrave, Director Track & Field & Cross Country will welcome and tour interested attendees highlighting the IMG Academy Stadium Phase I Reveal details and future plans. This state-of-the-art stadium marks the first phase of expansion of IMG Academy’s new multi-sport complex. It features 5000 seats; a Bermuda grass surface with TV-ready lights; an 8-lane 400m track and additional training area for jumps and throws; a broadcast-ready press box with coach, press, radio rooms and hospitality suites and a collegiate-style video board.
Steve Padgett, vice president & principal architect, Fawley Bryant, will introduce the event. Steve is the principal architect for the design of IMG Academy’s Campus Expansion which includes the recently completed 105,000 s.f. IMG Academy Residence Hall and the 200-acre Multi-Sport Complex, as well as the 40,000 s.f. Field House.

2013 SASA Luncheon Series
The driving force behind Manatee sports tourism's success, Joe Pickett, executive director of the Bradenton Area Sports Commission (BASC) will speak at the Sarasota Area Sports Alliance (SASA) next “Sports Spotlight” networking event on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 5-7 pm at the new Marriott Courtyard, formally the Comfort Suites at the corner of Cooper Creek and University Parkway, 8305 Tourist Center Drive, Bradenton.
“In our ongoing effort to connect and unite the greater Sarasota areas sports community, we are pleased to highlight manatee sports tourism's growth and success at this event,” said Joe DiPuma, SASA president. “Sports tourism provides a solid opportunity to generate tax dollars and economic impact year-around.”
The admission fee is $10. Entry includes complimentary appetizers and a glass of beer or wine for guests.
